  1. Know the concept and theories of complementary therapies
  2. Know the anatomy, physiology and common diseases and disorders of the body applicable to lymphatic drainage massage treatment
  3. Know the legislation applicable to lymphatic drainage massage treatment
  4. Know how to consult and recognise contra-indications to lymphatic drainage massage treatment
  5. Be able to carry out lymphatic drainage massage treatment
  6. Be able to evaluate lymphatic drainage massage treatment and advise on appropriate after and home care

Course Objectives

The main aim of the VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Certificate in Lymphatic Drainage Massage is to enable learners to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide lymphatic drainage massage to the general public and to gain employment in the beauty therapy industry. Not only will these competencies complement (upskill) their existing skills, they will also learn to develop their own career and enhance their employability in current profession. Hence, participants who have successfully acquired the competencies stand to put their career in good stead. In addition, SOQ provides career advisory to participants seeking to put their learning into immediate practice through alternative channels in real-life and/or simulated workplace environment.


Course Learning Outcome

At the end of this course, participants will be able to acquire the following:


Underpinning Knowledge

1. Requirement to perform the lymphatic drainage massage skills and function of the lymphatic system and common diseases and disorders that may affect when a client should or should not receive treatment

2. Development of massage setting, such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving

3. Develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a massage therapist

4. Related health and safety and client care and communication which is essential in order to work and be successful in the industry


Abilities

1. Carry out pre-treatment activities– to include consultation and contra-indications, selecting suitable massage mediums for the client’s skin type, classical lymphatic drainage movements and adapting the treatment to the client’s specific needs

2. Conduct treatment for contraindication

3. Demonstrate the compliance of lymphatic drainage massage

4. Carry out post-treatment activities


Pre-requisites
  • Aged 21 years and above.
  • Non-experience or least 1 year of experience in beauty care industry.
  • Minimum education level of Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Those who do not meet educational, literacy and numeracy requirement will be counselled and advised that they may not be able to follow the content, keep up with training, cope with assessment conducted. Where necessary, unsuitable applicants will be discouraged from enrolling in the programme.
  • It is recommended that learners must hold a Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Massage or Level 3 Diploma in Body Treatments or equivalent.
