What's In It For Me

The main aim of the Diploma in Professional Make Up is to enable learners to gain the necessary practical skills and knowledge to provide fashion, photographic and media make-up to the general public and performers and to gain employment in the photography and media make up industry.

 

This qualification is for learners who want to work within the make-up and photographic industry. The qualification consists of 3 mandatory units with a total of 216 hours of Guided Learning (GL) to achieve the full qualification.

 

The mandatory module and skills the learner will perform are:

 

Health and safety practice in the salon

  • Health, safety and hygiene – contextualised to the environment in which the learner is working


Provide Professional Make Up

  • Make-up application to include the understanding of face shapes and full make-up application
  • Application of fashion and photographic make-up – to include creating and adapting a design plan, using products, tools and techniques to meet the design plan, black and white and colour
  • Application of media make-up - to include characters and casualty effects


Professional conduct and business awareness

  • Consultation techniques – to include understanding the needs of clients and when and when not to treat them, contra-indications, referral procedures explaining possible contra-actions, providing aftercare and homecare advice


The learner will also develop knowledge about current legislation and working practice requirements and client care and communication which is essential to work and be successful in the industry.

Course Learning Outcome


At the end of the Professional Professional Make Up Course, participants will be able to acquire the following:


Underpinning Knowledge:

  1. Understand the requirements to perform professional make up, including knowledge of the face shape, skin tone and common diseases and disorders that may affect the treatment process.
  2. Develop effective communication skills with clients and the ability to work collaboratively with others, while also demonstrating problem-solving abilities.
  3. Cultivate a range of essential skills, techniques, personal qualities, and attitudes necessary for successful performance as a professional make up artists
  4. Gain knowledge in health and safety practices, as well as client care and communication, which are crucial for working in the industry and achieving success.


Abilities:

  1. Perform pre-treatment activities, such as conducting thorough consultations, identifying contraindications, selecting appropriate make up style based on the client's face shape, utilizing professional make up techniques, and adapting the service to the specific needs of the client.
  2. Safely and effectively perform the eyelash extension service, ensuring compliance with industry standards and guidelines.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in handling contraindications during the service.
  4. Carry out post-treatment activities, including providing appropriate aftercare instructions and ensuring the client's satisfaction.



Pre-requisites

• At least 16 years old

• Academic Requirement: At least a Grade C6 (Min 50%) at O-Level in any 3 subjects or matured candidate who is 30 years old with at least 8 years of relevant working experience

• Language Requirement: At least a Grade 5 (Min 50%) at N-Level English or IELTS 4.5
