What's In It For Me

This course enables the student adapt into many business portfolios like corporate investments and ventures, operation, accounting, and human capital development and management. It will not just be theory every time as students will also participate in solving practical business related issues. Students will participate in class discussions, group projects, assignments and assessments that are designed to improve their soft skills on how they solve problems, lead, make decisions, manage time, make presentations, work in a team and communicate effectively. The practical knowledge would also enable students to gain soft skills besid their academic qualification and will help students’ impact more in their career and businesses.


This 208 credit hours, 4-module course is designed to equip students with the technical knowledge of operating in an ever changing global economic and business landscape. Students will be exposed to fundamental business knowledge in the areas of human resources, operation, basic accounting, leadership, and communication.


The mandatory module and skills the learner will perform are:


MODULE 1: Organizational Behaviour

Organizational Behaviour (OB) is a field of study that shows the relationship between the behaviour of individuals, people or groups within an organization and how to harness these behaviours effectively to attain organizational goals. It is also using the human behaviour as a tool for organizational benefits.


MODULE 2: Human Resources

This module introduces learners to the importance of the Human Resource function in an organisation. They will also understand the various day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department, stressing on an open playing field for each member of the organisation.


MODULE 3: Operations Management

The aim of this module is to make students understand the necessity of operations to management in an organization. They will also be introduced to the factors of production as a key to implementing operational management. They will understand the idea of an effective supply chain and the importance of Quality Assurance and Control in the operational sphere. Other topics that will be covered include planning for production, project management and inventory management.


MODULE 4: Basic Accounting

This course introduces learners to the importance of accounting and finance to the organisation. Learners will appreciate the roles of a finance and accounts officer to the organisation. They will be able to explain the various types of business entities in Singapore, and the importance of ethics in accounting and finance. They will understand and be able to interpret business transactions and how to read financial reports.

MODULE 1: Organizational Behaviour

MODULE 2: Human Resources

  • Define Human Resource and its relationship to the organisation and its management processes.

  • Explain what is Job Analysis and its usefulness to the Human Resource department; especially in this dispensation where jobs are scarce.
  • Explain the Information, Instruction, Training, Supervision and Discipline (IITSD) process and what it entails.

  • Explain the benefits of Occupational Health and Safety trainings to the staff and organisation.

Pre-requisites

• At least 16 years old

• Academic Requirement: At least a Grade C6 (Min 50%) at O-Level in any 3 subjects or matured candidate who is 30 years old with at least 8 years of relevant working experience.

• Language Requirement: At least IELTS 5.5 or a pass in GCE ‘O’ Level English or equivalent
